Lehigh Valley Depot at Lima

                                                                                                                          Paul Worboys collection
This was the original depot at Rochester Junction, moved to Lima in 1895 when a new depot was built. It was damaged by fire in the 1940s and half of it was demolished. Passenger service on this line was discontinued November 26, 1938; service provided by gas electric cars. Vince Millikin, a local railroad historian,  said:
"I recall when the Lima station was burned ostensibly as a fire training session. I could see the smoke on Route 15A from a Rush hillside. If you look closely in the photo you will see the Livonia, Avon & Lakeville coach #21711 which was sold to the party which then owned the Honeoye Falls depot. It was an Erie Stillwell coach. Crew would run around the consist here and set off Honeoye Falls traffic going back north. The Milwaukee boxcar is either an empty out of Matthews and Fields at Henrietta or a load for Caves Lumber at Honeoye Falls."

The remaining branch south of Rochester Junction was discontinued on November 13, 1981 with the pick up of seven cars from an insulator plant. This move was preceded by a speeder. Remainder of the "Rochester South Branch" was officially abandoned on March 22, 1983. All remaining structures at Rochester Junction and the station at Lima were demolished on April 15, 1983. Tracks from Rochester Junction to Lima began to be pulled up on April 11, 1984.  Rochester Junction to Henrietta was also embargoed on March 30, 1982 and officially abandoned on January 15, 1983. Rails between these points were pulled up shortly after August 6, 1984 after brush was removed to allow work to be done. Reference Lehigh Valley Railroad General Order No. 903 Zone E dated November 22, 1968 effective 10:01 A.M. Friday, November 29, 1968 paragraph (c): Rochester Branch - Lima to Hemlock. Portion of Rochester Branch between Hemlock and a point 2,746 feet east of M.P. 385, east of Lima, abandoned. The direction Hemlock-Rochester was westward on timetable.
