Stations Combined
___
Fall Brook Depot Was Closed Today
___
As a forerunner of the important changes which the New York Central Railroad Company intends making in the running of trains on the Pennsylvania division of that road through this city, came the announcement this morning that the station of of the Pennsylvania division in this city as well as the operator’s room will be discontinued, on and after this day, and that all of the business will hereafter be transacted on the Auburn branch of the road.
The waiting-room, at the Fall Brook station was also closed and trains on that road are being announced from the old Auburn Road station. Edward Mouer and Simon Fennell, the two operators employed at the Fall Brook station received word that the station here has been discontinued and that for the present they were relieved from duty. Both men will undoubtedly be transferred to other stations.
Shortly after these orders were received a gang of linemen arrived and began the work of changing the wires from the Fall Brook station to that of the Central.
While the officials of the road will volunteer no information in regard to the change except the fact of the order, and the fact that it is believed that the change is to be permanent, it is tough - that the action of the company in discontinuing the office has something to do with plans for either the double-tracking of the line or the avoiding of that by the building of the proposed switch around this city. Provided the road was double-tracked it is argued that the trains could be run practically from Corning to Lyons without the aid of the numerous telegraph offices at present along the line, and if the double-tracking of the line is completed this year it is produced that at least all of the officers between this city and Lyons will be abolished.
